Returning from its blockbuster first season for an encore, ATC’s holiday musical extravaganza “Scrooge!” celebrates the season with the beloved story of Ebenezer Scrooge joined by a distinguished cast of more than 24 actors, live musicians, and an all-star creative team. With songs by the illustrious Oscar- and Grammy-winning and Tony-nominated composer Leslie Bricusse (“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”), this unique rendition exclusively brought to life by ATC is quickly becoming a cherished holiday tradition to share with your entire family.

Three Things to Know:

  1. Leslie Bricusse wrote the 1970 movie Scrooge, the 1992 stage musical, and the 2022 Netflix animated adaptation.
  2. Leslie Bricusse is also well known for writing the music and lyrics for the films Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Doctor Dolittle
  3. A Christmas Carol was first published on December 19, 1843, with the first edition sold out by Christmas Eve. By 1844, the novella had gone through 13 printings and continues to be a robust seller more than 175 years later.

Arizona Theatre Company brings Scrooge! back

Arizona Theatre Company this weekend is bringing back Scrooge, the holiday musical about a miserly businessman’s journey to redemption as he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. But this year’s production will look different than last year. The set from Emmy-winning designer Jason Ardizzone-West includes mechanical elements that transform the expansive set from scene to scene, with video enhancements adding to the visuals. “When the audience comes in, they are going to see a production that looks like a full-scale Broadway production,” said ATC Artistic Director Matt August, who is directing the show. Shuler Hensley To Star in Scrooge! at Arizona Theatre Company

Arizona Theatre Company will welcome back Tony Award-winning Broadway star Shuler Hensley to reprise his role as the title character in its holiday musical Scrooge! this holiday season. Performing feature roles in Broadway and West End shows like Oklahoma!Young Frankenstein and Meredith Wilson’s Music Man, as well as feature films like The Greatest Showman, Hensley is acclaimed for his powerful voice, depth of emotion and joyful humor. “Shuler Hensley’s portrayal of Scrooge has left an indelible mark on our audiences,” says Matt August, Kasser Family Artistic Director.
