We HEAR You!

We’re delighted to share several sound improvements you’ll notice when you return to the theatre this fall, including additional microphones, sound mixing improvements, assistive listening device options at every performance, and open captioning at a select performance of every show.

Sound Supervisor Mathew DeVore and his team will be approaching all six shows as they would musicals to catch more of the nuances of dialogue and vocals. Additionally, we’ve added several highly sensitive microphones on the stages and in the air that are designed to handle further distance for various applications in theatre.

Tucson – Temple of Music and Art

For those attending shows in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art who want to augment their listening experience, you can tap into the Assistive Listening System, which provides a direct audio feed from the sound console. It’s easy to download the Sennheiser MobileConnect app on your smartphone and use your phone to connect to the system in the theatre. Download it in advance and then ask an usher to assist you when you arrive at the theatre.

Listening can be done in three ways:

  1. Hearing Aids – Many hearing aids work with the Assistive Listening System. You can download the app and open the app when you arrive at the theatre. Ushers may be able to assist you.
  2.  Infrared headsets are available in the lobby on a first-come, first-served basis for every show. Bring your driver license to the lobby to check out a device. These devices are fed by the audio feed from the sound console.
  3. Bring your own headphones and download the app, then connect when you’re in the theatre. DeVore recommends over-ear headphones that block outside noise for the best listening experience, similar to these.

Open Caption: For those who wish to read the dialogue as it occurs, we offer Open Caption performances that display the dialogue on a screen. Open Caption shows are offered for Series 17, Thursdays at 2:00 PM at the Temple of Music and Art. Contact the Box Office and we can ensure you’re seated in an area where you can see the screen for these shows.

Herberger Theater Center

  2. Bring your own headphones, then connect when you’re in the theatre. DeVore recommends over-ear headphones that block outside noise for the best listening experience, similar to these.
