Arizona Theatre Company will close its 58th season with a hip and hilarious, modern spin on the classic Bram Stoker tale with Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen.
This fast-paced Dracula contains more than a dozen characters, including favorites such as Van Helsing, Harker, Mina, and Lucy, all portrayed by just five actors. Directed by one of the busiest directors on Broadway and in London Gordon Greenberg (Heart of Rock and Roll, Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn), the ensemble includes Broadway and television stalwarts Christopher James Stephens (Leopoldstadt), Paul Vogt (Hairspray, Chicago, Mad TV, Hannah Montana), James Romney (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Camelot), Kelly Bashar (Fargo, Parks and Recreation), and rising star Susana Cordón.
Greenberg and Rosen developed the piece during the height of the pandemic, originally producing it as a podcast series featuring high profile actors including Alan Tudyk, Ashley Park, John Stamos, and Alex Brightman, among others. The witty material combined with classic text ultimately translated to the stage and became an instant Off-Broadway hit.
Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors follows young Dracula as he searches for a new London bachelor pad that is fit to host the love of his (eternal) life. Luckily, he has an eager-to-please realtor ready to satisfy his every need, until Dracula takes an interest in his fiancée. Nobody is prepared for what happens next.
