ATC’s Playwright-in-Residence Joins Guggenheim Foundation’s 101st Class of Fellows

ATC is proud to celebrate an extraordinary honor for our Playwright-in-Residence, Elaine Romero, who has been named to the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation’s 101st Class of Fellows in the field of Drama and Performance Art.

This prestigious recognition places Elaine Romero among 223 distinguished artists, scientists, and scholars selected from nearly 5,000 applicants across 55 disciplines. The Guggenheim Fellowship is one of the most respected honors in the creative and academic worlds, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and outstanding promise in their fields.

Established in 1925, the Guggenheim Fellowship supports visionary thinkers and creators by providing a monetary stipend to pursue independent work “under the freest possible conditions.” Over the last century, the Foundation has awarded nearly $450 million in fellowships to more than 19,000 Fellows, including many of the most influential artists and writers in history.

“Our new class of Guggenheim Fellows is representative of the world’s best thinkers, innovators, and creators in art, science, and scholarship,” said Edward Hirsch, President of the Guggenheim Foundation. “We are honored to support their visionary contributions.”

This recognition is a testament to Elaine Romero’s remarkable artistry. As Playwright-in-Residence, Elaine Romero continues to shape the future of American theatre through her direction of ATC’s National Latine Playwrights Award & Festival.

This year’s Fellows represent a wide range of groundbreaking work, with projects addressing subjects as varied as artificial intelligence, medical innovation, historical research, and new artistic expression. In the field of drama and performance, Elaine Romero joins an exceptional cohort of creators helping define the next century of artistic achievement.

We are so proud to see Elaine Romero recognized on this national stage and cannot wait to see what this fellowship brings.

Please join us in congratulating Elaine Romero on this incredible honor.
