He is the former artistic director of Cornerstone Theater Company, where he directed many projects including Highland Park is Here by Mark Valdez, California: The Tempest by Alison Carey, and Café Vida by Lisa Loomer. Plays he has written include TOWN (Theatre Horizon) and 36 Yesses and Magic Fruit (Cornerstone). Garces is a professor of practice at Arizona State University. He is the recipient of the Doris Duke Artist Award and the Princess Grace Statue Award.
