Elaine Romero’s Secret Things was produced at 1st Stage (DC). El Tiradito was produced at the historical site. RomeroFest featured her work at theatres nationally /internationally with over seventeen projects. ATC partnered with Artists Repertory Theatre, InterAct Theatre Company, Seven Devils, Teatro Travieso/Troublemaker Theater, Justice Theatre Project, and Foro Shakespeare. Title IX was featured at the National Playwrights Conference (O’Neill). Romero’s work has been published by Dramatists Play Service, Samuel French, and Vintage Books. Her work includes the film, A Sentiment. She won the Professor Alberto Rios Outstanding Literary Award. Her plays have been published by Samuel French, Simon & Schuster, Dramatists Play Service, and beyond. Recent publications include Swastika (TRW), Permission (Routledge), and Harriet & Irene (Cambridge University Press). Harriet and Irene appeared in the 2025 María Irene Fornés Symposium at Princeton.
Notable residences include Sundance Playwrights Retreat at Ucross, Hermitage Artists Retreat, Devils Retreat, and Headlands. Through the 2024-2025 Udall Fellowship, she workshopped her new piece, Diablos Aquí. She is Professor in the School of Theatre, Film, & Television at the University of Arizona.
